Above The Clouds Radio #468 — May 2, 2026

Above The Clouds Radio – Episode 468 vinyl record collage, May 2, 2026

Guest Uropress handles the opening set and kicks things off with one of the more audacious set openers in recent memory: a West Virginia snake handling preacher on Sublime Frequencies, which either clears the room or locks everyone in. From there, it's Eiko Ishibashi, The Bug & Fennesz, Gong, King Crimson's "Cirkus," and PFM doing serious prog damage. Burial, Algerian singer Chaba Fadela, Last Poets with Dead Prez & Common, and Goblin's "Witch" close it out. That's a lot of ground covered.

rap79 keeps the vibe going with Deerhoof and Sonic Youth's "I Love Her All The Time" from their classic 1986 album EVOL before diving into a run of European obscurities.

German kraut-prog via Gomorrha and Ibliss. Worth noting on Ibliss: while they only ever released one album on the German Spiegelei label, they featured a couple of pre-Kraftwerk members, notably Andreas Hohmann, the original Kraftwerk drummer. The entire album has a Krautrock fusion feel with a heavy emphasis on percussion, and Conny Plank behind the board seals the pedigree. Classic. rap79 finishes off with French avant-garde from Lard Free and Italian library music from Braen Machine.

KEMS brings it back to earth and gets it started with Puerto Rican Space Program "New Song, New Life". Not only was Lumin the co-founder of Above The Clouds Radio, but he also makes his own bangers. Released in 2016, Puerto Rican Space Program is a sonic journey well worth embarking on. Lumin still has a few copies left at oddinhuman.bandcamp.com. Don't sleep!

Evidence, R.A.P. Ferreira & Kenny Segal, Dennis Brown, Ike White, and DJ Cam fill out the middle before KEMS closes on one of the great buried gems (which is a DJ KEMS specialty): UNKLE's "Time Has Come" (Portishead Remix). The late 90s were a prolific time for both groups and no matter how big of a fan you were it was almost impossible to keep up with all the b-sides and remixes of that era.
